Canis

Canis is the largest extant genus of "true dogs". Canines tend to be larger than other members of Canidae. The variety of species that are in genus Canis make writting a description fairly difficult, so it's best to just see the individual species pages. The actual classification of species within Canis is not entirely agreed upon. Many animals that were previously considered separate species are now considered sub-species of the Gray Wolf (among them are the dingo and the domestic dog).
